Girl Saves Best Friend One Day After Learning Heimlich Maneuver

Third-grader Shailyn Ryan learned the Heimlich maneuver in school and was able to put her skills to the test the following day, saving her best friend’s life.

Ryan was having lunch with Keira Silvia at their school in Massachusetts when Silvia’s face turned red as she began to choke on a hot dog. Ryan jumped into action and began performing the Heimlich maneuver she’d learned only 24 hours prior.

Thanks to her friend’s quick thinking and new skills, Silvia survived.

We provide rental housing for over 1,200 people, and our staff believes that housing is the most fundamental of needs. Almost all of our staff lives in our communities, and each morning we are there as residents embark on their day. We expect our residents to pass on to others the good service, good deeds, and acts of kindness we provide every day. Our staff works hard to inspire our residents so that they can inspire others.
